“Come with me, and you’ll be, in a world of pure imagination,” Chris Martin sang last night as word of the death of the legendary Gene Wilder spread and Coldplay performed in Denver.
It was a glorious sight, as Martin crooned Wilder’s signature song from Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory and confetti rained down onto the stage.
Ironically, “Pure Imagination” was also included on the latest album from Barbra Streisand, Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway. On the album which was just released Friday, two days before Wilder’s death, Streisand is joined by Family Guy creator Seth McFarlane.
But then again, no one can compare to Gene Wilder’s enchanting performance from the film.
