What beat Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” for Video of the Year in 1984?  Where does the term “dibs” come from?  Why aren’t Daddy Long-legs classified as spiders?  All that and more with Adam’s Fun Facts:

1. The word crayfish isn’t based on the word “fish.” It comes from the French word “ecrevisse.” (Wiktionary) (Pronounced eh-krev-eese.)

2. Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” didn’t win Video of the Year at the first Video Music Awards in 1984. It lost to “You Might Think” by The Cars. (Uproxx)

3. Daddy long-legs are arachnids, but they’re not classified as spiders because they don’t produce silk. (About)

4. There’s a town in Nevada on the way from L.A. to Vegas called Jean, with a casino but a population of ZERO.  Everyone who works at the casino lives somewhere else. (Wikipedia)

5. The word “dibs” comes from a children’s game from the 1600s called dibstones. It was sort of like jacks, and kids would try to win little pieces of animal bones by yelling “Dibs!” (Wordspy)
