Bieber puts to rest any lingering doubt that there's bad blood between the Canadian pop stars.

It looks as though Shawn Mendes has himself a true blue fan in fellow Canadian pop star Justin Bieber. The Biebs tweeted out a series of messages to followers early this morning (October 5), encouraging them to buy Mendes’ sophomore studio album Illuminate.

“Shawn Mendes voice makes me smile. Truly a gift to be able to move peoples emotions through songs!” Bieber wrote. “So proud of you brother! Great album!”

The good will comes after Justin appeared to shade Shawn last year when he claimed to not know who Mendes was in an interview. That riled up Mendes’ fans more than it did the burgeoning pop star himself, but Bieber extended an olive branch before any kind of beef got going. He later tweeted directly at Mendes, and wrote, “Shawn I checked out the music and I’m so proud! So glad to see another boy from Canada crushin it. #canadiansdoitbetter.”

To show there were no hard feelings, Mendes covered Bieber’s “What Do You Mean?” and shared it on Instagram.

An endorsement from Biebs goes a long way considering he’s got 88.6 million followers on Twitter. But even without Bieber’s help it seems as though Mendes is doing just fine. Illuminate marked his second number one album on the Billboard 200 chart, selling 145,000 copies in the first week since it dropped on September 23rd.
