Brush Fire Burning Near St Cloud Elementary School

A small brush fire is burning in St Cloud off Canoe Creek Road near St Cloud Elementary school and prompted evacuations at the school this afternoon.

Students have been transported to Peghorn Park where they’ll be dismissed. Parents are asked to bring photo identification with them when picking up their children district officials said.

Students will only be released to adults on the official pickup list.

The fire is burning behind the Steven’s Plantation neighborhood, and ironically my sister lives in that development.

She said the smoke is very thick and no one has been asked to evacuate their homes as of 3:30pm.

UPDATE: 5:18pm

St. Cloud Fire Department officials said the fire off of Canoe Creek Road started when a wooden OUC power pole in a neighborhood off Canoe Creek snapped on it’s own.

When the pole snapped, a wire flew into the woods near Canoe Creek Park and started the fire.

School officials said students were walked to Peghorn Park and dismissed from there.

Students were bused home as usual and students who were usually picked up by parents were picked up at the park.

No injuries have been reported.
