In a Nintendo-esque announcement at Universal Studios Japan, Mario Kart was officially announced as a marquee attraction at the Japanese theme park.

Super Nintendo World was announced almost a year ago as the new partnership with Nintendo and NBC Universal and that themed lands were coming to Japan, Orlando and Hollywood in that order.

Japan’s expansion is set to open in 2020 in connection with the Tokyo Olympic Games, with Orlando and Hollywood following.

The land will feature beloved characters from Nintendo franchises such as Mario and Luigi, Princess Peach, Bowser, Koopa kids, Toad, Yoshi, and many, many others.

In the announcement held in Osaka at the Universal Studios Japan park, Mario Kart was officially announced which leads many to believe the carbon copy will be coming to Orlando.

“Super Nintendo World will be a huge area with a multi-layered structure, recreating the popular characters and themes from Nintendo video games, consisting of Mario Kart, highly unique and the first of its kind in the world ride attractions developed with the latest technologies, shops and restaurants,” said a release. The Japan version of the land will open in time for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and will follow with more Nintendo lands in the U.S.

Mario Kart is arguably the most popular Nintendo video game followed by Legend Of Zelda and Mario Party.

Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Orlando is rumored to be replacing Woody Woodpecker Kid Zone.
