One of Orlando’s busiest stretches of road could be getting some relief in the form of a new streetcar system!

Remember a while back there was talk of an elevated train connecting I-Drive to the airport with stops here and there? Well that fell through as many thought it would.

However, Orange County Mayor, Theresa Jacobs said she’s in favor of a streetcar system to help ease the car logged I-Drive corridor.

The system would run about 2 miles from Sand Lake Road to the 528 along I-Drive with stops in various locations.

This would help ease congestion of cars trying to get in and out of local businesses.

There is also the possibility that the new streetcars could connect to Orlando International Airport, eliminating the need for a car to get to the Convention Center and hotels along the tourist corridor.

The new streetcar system would cost quite a pretty penny, about $70 million a mile to construct.
