So I’ve been trying something out during my show every afternoon. Rather than sit in the chair we have, I stand for the 4 hours I’m in the studio.
Now I’m all for making healthier decisions and if I can burn more calories at rest standing than sitting, well then I’ll gladly swap it out.
But is it really doing anything?
Well, it actually is! If you stand for 4 hours a day, you’ll burn on average, 200 calories! According to an article I read from the BBC, standing at rest for 1 hour, will burn approximately 50 calories.
So, standing for 3 hours a day, 5 days a week is 750 calories a week! Over the course of a year, that would be 30,000 extra calories, just for standing a few hours out of the day!
That adds up to about 8 lbs of fat!
That doesn’t take into account if you’re moving around at your desk like with one of those treadmill desks.
So I guess my little experiment does have some evidence to put behind it. Guess I’ll be standing from now on while I’m doing my radio show!
