It’s no secret that I-4 through the entire city of Orlando is one big mess right now.
However it’s only temporary while construction crews work to better improve the interstate and add tolled express lanes from Longwood to near Universal Orlando Resort.
Crews have already reconfigured part of the Kirkman Road interchange and in order to accommodate the other half of the project, the I-4 eastbound on-ramp from Universal Boulevard will close for 5 months to allow for the completion of the Kirkman Road overhaul. The closure begins Monday, February 19th at 2 am.
The detour will instruct drivers to either take Universal Boulevard to International Drive and get on I-4 eastbound from Kirkman Road, or to take Major Boulevard to the newly constructed Grand National Drive overpass to International Drive and then hang a right onto Kirkman Road and enter I-4 that way.
You can see the map of this detour here.
Other I-4 construction projects include:
Install bridge girders as part of the I-4/State Road 408 interchange reconstruction
Shift westbound I-4 traffic onto new bridges over Kaley Avenue
Open additional portions of eastbound lanes Shift traffic onto new elevated lanes of eastbound Maitland Boulevard
