Wow. This is some rumor I just stumbled upon.
A while back, it was confirmed that Super Nintendo World was coming to Universal Orlando Resort as well as Universal parks in Japan and Hollywood.
All of the speculation pointed to the replacement of KidZone at Universal Studios, replacing Fivel’s Playland, Barney & Friends, and Woody Woodpecker Nuthouse Coaster as well as Animal Actors show.
However, Attractions Magazine is reporting that a new rumor has surfaced suggesting that Super Nintendo World will actually be the center of a 3rd theme park. Remember, Universal bought 500+ acres off Universal Boulevard near the Orange County Convention Center.
The original plans included a Mario Kart attraction, Princess Peach’s Castle, Yoshi land attraction, Donkey Kong Island with a Donkey Kong roller coaster and Zelda and Kirby attractions.
However, it appeared that the Zelda and Kirby plans were later axed according to rumor blogs.
Now, the new rumor is that the 3rd Universal park could be centered around the mushroom kingdom with all of the above IPs as well as other franchises such as Metroid, Star Fox, Animal Crossing, Pikmin and F-Zero. Bringing all of this to a new park would give Universal Creative so much more room to build larger attractions and really immerse guests in the world of Nintendo.
There still is the possibility that Nintendo will have a presence in the 2 existing parks too, which would follow a move similar to the Harry Potter attractions.
Again, this is all pure speculation as Universal has made no formal announcements, but it makes sense to me. The one thing Universal is lacking is a true kid friendly theme park to rival the Magic Kingdom, and this could be their ticket. Literally.
