Barbie has come a long way since she first started, but something more admirable is who she’ll be representing in the near future.
This International Woman’s Day, Mattel will be honoring a few ladies, like Olympian Chloe Kim. This is so awesome. I loved playing with Barbie growing up, I think my favorite was Seaworld Barbie, I had a Shamu orca and everything! Enough about that but aside from creating different nationalities of Barbies, I love that they are incorporating important women in history.
Frida Kahlo, Amelia Earhart, Katherine Johnson, will be among the Barbies being made. Mattel is also recognizing modern day role models such as “Wonder Woman” director Patty Jenkins and Australian wildlife conservationist Bindi Irwin, actress Emmy Rossum, Ballerina Misty Copeland, and Olympic Gymnast Gabby Douglas.
You can see the dolls here, they are amazing!
