‘Top Chef’ Star Padma Lakshmi, 49, Reveals the Workout That ‘Changed My Body’

For “Top Chef” host Padma Lakshmi eating delicious meals comes with the job description.

Lakshmi often has to sample up to 30 dishes an episode on the Bravo cooking competition series, which can quickly add up to nearly 8,000 calories a day.

“Those chefs are cooking to win, so they’re putting in as much lard and butter and salt as they can,” the 49-year-old confessed to Women’s Health.

But to balance out the decadent food, the model and author turns to a workout regimen to maintain an overall sense of wellness.

And while prior to the start of the pandemic, Lakshmi hit the gym to do cardio and lift weights five times a week, it’s another routine that she credits with transforming her body.

“I started going to Pilates a few years ago, because my chiropractor recommended it for my back,” the Emmy nominee said.

Lakshmi was diagnosed with scoliosis as a teenager and suffered a fractured right hip and shattered arm in a car accident at 14.

“Pilates changed my body. It made me strong in places I didn’t know I needed to be,” Lakshmi shared, before adding, “I have a butt now that I didn’t have during my modeling career!”

The mother of one showed off the fruits of her hard work by flaunting her enviable physique in a bikini selfie on Monday.

“Which way to the beach,” she captioned the snap wearing a multicolor robe over a purple two-piece.

While season 17 of “Top Chef” recently aired its finale, Lakshmi’s new series, “Taste the Nation,” is currently streaming on Hulu.
