1.  There are only 88 recognized constellations and it's been that way since 1928.

2.  The chain restaurant Smith & Wollensky got its name when the founder opened up the phone book and randomly picked two people's last names.  The founder was a guy named Alan Stillman, and no one named Smith or Wollensky was ever involved.

3.  Otis Redding died in a plane crash in 1967 only three days after he recorded "Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay".

4.  The Hundred Years' War between England and France really lasted 116 years:  From 1337 to 1453.

5.  The 1876 presidential election had the highest voter turnout of any election in history: 81.8% of Americans voted.  It also had the smallest margin of victory ever.  Rutherford B. Hayes beat Samuel Tilden by only one electoral vote.
