Tropical Storm Dorian Strengthens In Atlantic

The storm is forecast to become a hurricane.

August 26, 2019

Right on cue, Tropical Storm Dorian is churning in the Atlantic Ocean and is forecast to become a hurricane before entering the Caribbean.

As of 11am Monday, top estimated winds were near 60mph with higher gusts.

The movement is towards the WNW at 12mph and the cone of uncertainty brings the storm near the Antilles and eventually near or over Puerto Rico and the Dominiocan Republic.

After that, the cone widens greatly but brings the storm near the Bahamas as a tropical storm. Some long-term models do take the storm over the Florida peninsula.

This would be a good time to ensure your hurricane kit was ready for any impacts that may occur within the next week or two.

Of course, the intensity cannot be determined as land interaction of the small circulation could greatly weaken the storm.

However, the water temperatures are warm enough to support intensification if the atmosphere were condusive for such a thing.
