Mermaid City, Weeki Wachee, Has Been Disolved

Was it really necessary?

June 10, 2020

I've always wanted to go to Weeki Wachee. I've always known people who go there to see the mermaid shows.

But as of yesterday, a bill was passed by Gov. DeSantis, that dissolved the city.

It was founded in 1966, and put the Weeki Wachee Mermaids on the map, but the last resident count for the city was 13 residents. 13 RESIDENTS!.

Founded in 1966 to put the famous Weeki Wachee mermaid attraction onto maps and road signs, the city at last count had just 13 residents. Now, even though the city is no longer, the Weeki Wachee Springs State Park will still be open and running, well, as soon as the pandemic is over.
